somebody is about to post that bullshit study with the economic model that claims there would have been fewer mass shootings if the AWB didn't expire.

Americas violent gun crime and homicide rates are once again on the upswing… without a ban.

no. the AWB didn't impact violent crime rates. Violent crime continued on the same downward trend before and after the AWB
It was pretty widely accepted that Columbine was the genesis of mass shootings being a thing until last week when the AWB became a topic of discussion.

This most likely didn't involve an AR so all ideas about restrictions for them are now rendered moot!

Chief of Police Celeste Murphy says two victims died of gunshot wounds and another died from injuries that were sustained after being struck by a vehicle.
Ban assault cars, imo.

Lots of things can work. But "prohibition laws" will not, we have centuries of evidence that the unintended consequences of creating a black market are ALWAYS worse than the problem they seek to solve by prohibition.

Humans have a right to the same defense as "the gov't" because we have a gov't "of the people, by the people, for the people". We don't let queens in fancy hats have more rights than anyone else.
the outcomes of prohibitions depend on that which is being prohibited

assault rifles were banned before in the United States. and they have been banned in other countries

so instead of comparing the prohibition of assault weapons or guns to a theoretical concept of "prohibitions," it may be more valuable to look at past and current prohibitions. the results appear to be positive in terms of deaths related to those weapons

Assault weapons ban (with associated restriction on 10+ magazines as was done last time) would probably reduce mass shooting injuries and deaths per shooting.

I'd be in favor of increased age and background checking for these items instead of banning them. But banning them will eventually make them less available via cost increases....10-15 years from now.

Suicides are probably impacted by waiting periods.

Domestic abuse turned homicides the same.

Gang violence will require handgun management and of course all the other interventions associated with economic disparities.
