True. It has introduced an interesting dynamic though where fans/media have taken back the power and are deciding themselves who is the #1 in each division, and the court of public opinion means so much more than in other sports.
Canelo and Adonis Stevenson are the linear champions of their divisions, but nobody buys Canelo as the best MW and nobody buys Adonis as the #1 LHW in the world.
But for a casual fan who doesn't follow closely, it really kills it. Too many belts, too many weight divisions. Bring back one champion per division and have only 8 divisions - Heavy, Light Heavy, Middleweight, Welterweight, Lightweight, Featherweight, Bantamweight, Flyweight. That's all you need. The tweeners can decide if they want to move down or up.
