Just a few hours after turning himself in, Jon Jones is out of jail Monday night.

The UFC light heavyweight champion posted $2,500 bail and was released at 10:13 p.m. local time, according to Bernalillo County Metro Detention Center records. Jones was arrested on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injuries earlier Monday evening. Jones was booked 7:11 p.m. local time.

Jones, 27, allegedly ran a red light Sunday morning, striking a car driven by a pregnant woman. There was also a third car involved. The woman, whose name is Vanessa Sonnenberg, broke her arm in the incident. Jones is being accused of fleeing the scene on foot. There was a marijuana pipe and marijuana found in the rental car Jones allegedly left behind. An off-duty police officer, a UFC fan, identified Jones at the scene. Witnesses said Jones went back to the vehicle to grab a handful of money before running away.

Sonnenberg's injury upgraded the Jones charge from a potential misdemeanor to a felony. The arrest warrant was issued Monday afternoon. Jones was also incommunicable until Monday afternoon. His lawyer arranged the plans for Jones to turn himself in, per the Albuquerque Police Department.

UFC has acknowledged Jones' arrest and the promotion does not expect to provide any further statements Monday night. The UFC said in a statement Sunday that it would wait for more information to come in before commenting further. Jones' UFC 187 main event title defense against Anthony Johnson has not officially been called off.

Jones recently moved with his fiancée and three daughters to Albuquerque from upstate New York. He has trained at Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA in the New Mexico city for years.

Jones, regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, has had troubles in the past. He was busted for DWI in 2012 and in December tested positive for cocaine metabolites in an out-of-competition drug test conducted by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

That same commission is watching this current situation for closely, executive director Bob Bennett told MMAFighting.com on Monday.

Attorney: Jon Jones focused on upcoming fight | New Mexico News - KOAT Home

local news story on jones.vid of him leaving jail

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —The Albuquerque Police Department said UFC fighter Jon Jones turned himself in after a Sunday hit-and-run.

Jones was booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center without incident Monday evening, and was quiet as he left MDC hours later.

An arrest warrant was released Monday, and Jones faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injuries.

Police said they responded Sunday morning to a hit-and-run accident near Juan Tabo and Southern. When officers arrived, they found an injured pregnant woman in her 20s. She suffered a broken arm.

"I kind of freaked out and I was just more upset, you know, that he couldn't at least stayed and at least said, 'I'm sorry' or something," said the woman.

Witnesses said they saw a man fleeing from a car at the scene of the accident after stuffing cash in his pockets, according to the police report.

Inside one of the cars involved in the crash, police found paperwork that belonged to Jones, according to the police report. A marijuana pipe and marijuana were also found in the car.

An Albuquerque police officer also said he saw Jones running away from the scene. According to police, the car Jones left behind was a rental.

APD said officers went to Jones' home Sunday night, but he wasn't there. They also tried to contact his lawyer, but didn't get a response.

Monday evening, APD tweeted arrangements had been made for Jones to turn himself in. They also linked to the arrest warrant.

Jones is the same MMA fighter who tested positive for cocaine after a fight in January. He went to rehab for a short time.

Jones is scheduled to defend his UFC light heavyweight title on May 23. Officials would not say if the fight is in jeopardy because of these charges.

"He wants to get down to training for this fight he has," said Jones' attorney, Vincent Ward. "He wouldn't want to be dealing with this right now, but he's a great guy, he's taking all this seriously."

The UFC released this statement: "We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident. We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available."

Jones' Albuquerque coach said he hadn't seen the fighter since practice last week. He didn't have a comment regarding the crash.

So as non american i don't really know how the US justice system works.

What does this mean is he gonna serve jail time,or is this gonna be a fine.

The weird thing is he went back to grab cash, why not his pipe and weed to throw it away seems like a better idea than grabbing the cash.

People make dumb choices in harsh circumstances is my guess. Jon isn't known for making the good decisions either

Just for the record, i was in no way trying to be rude to that guy. Text doesn't convey tone, so next time I'll try to remember to put a nice emoticon on my post when disagreeing with someone.
