There are currently 5 teams with 50 or more wins and 3 of them are in the same conference.

The NL West has:
  • LAD @ 58-29
  • ARZ @ 52-34
  • COL @ 50-38
The other 2 teams are:
WAS @ 50-35
HOU @ 58-28 (the only AL team with 50 wins)

Colorado, currently in 3rd place in the NL West, would be in 1st place in the AL East, AL Central and NL Central.

Heading into the AS break, I think the biggest shocker is San Francisco. They are 24 games out of 1st place with a 34-53 record.

Last year at this time they were 54-33.

One more nugget before I head to work...

Giancarlo Stanton is apparently on the trading block. He isn't happy with the organization, and his huge contract (13 years, $325mm) is tough to carry for an organization that isn't winning.

The Cardinals are apparently interested. I'm not a fan of the Cards and, as a Reds fan, would hate to face Stanton that often - but it would be nice for baseball if a huge star didn't get gobbled up by one of the big 3 spenders (Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers)

The Yankees are deep in the outfield in the minors but he's young enough that they could make a play for him as long as the Marlin's don't ask for the world. That's a huge contract so their options are going to be limited.

But Stanton in left and Judge in right and a 3,4,5 with Sanchez is giving me a bit of a semi.

Shame, that. Are they that bad?

Yes. They are.
They can't score runs. And their pitchers can't stop allowing runs. Bad combo.

And they have a huge payroll that is locked in. They have the talent to turn it around, but right now they suck pretty hard.

Aaron Judge hit another one last night. That's 30. That is the most ever by a Yankees rookie, and we're only at the AS Break.
He also has 66 RBI.

Truly phenomenal.

I was curious to see if they have started pitching away from Judge, leading to more walks and thus less opportunity for a HR.
I'm also a nerd, so I made a chart with a running total of his HRs and Walks by game so far this season...

There's a definite upswing in BBs starting around game 70 that effected his HR frequency.

AL pitchers might start giving him the Barry Bonds treatment. But that can be difficult to do if the other bats in the lineups are being productive.

They should release him and let him go play with a real team

All of the recent injuries have forced the Yankees to bring this kid up earlier than expected.

Considering he's a more natural centerfielder than left fielder I'm really getting excited for the inevitable time that the Yanks dump Ellsbury. Especially if the semi that Hauler @Alco Hauler caused comes true and we manage to pick up Giovanni as well.

Frazier
Torres
Judge
Stanton
Sanchez
Holliday
Bird
Castro
Gregorious

You're all fucked hahaha

Judge may serious be the next Pujols. Totally unexpected he is this good but cheap as fuck for the yankees right now

Yanks are going to be so good in a couple years, Severino had double digit strikeouts again today, in a couple years he'll be in the discussion with Kershaw & whoever else is being considered the best. Only bad thing for the Yanks is the Astros might be more loaded

The good news for the Yanks is that they have so much money and ability to draw people in that if they need to fill a gap to play catch up they can and the Astros will never win that battle.
Now that the current Steinbrenner regime is letting Cashman operate with trades and building the farm and still willing to spend some cash it's going to be interesting. For Steinbrenner Sr. and the elder Steinbrenner son they just limited him and his only option was to spend too much on big name guys. I'm amped that they're already playing as well as they are considering I was expecting this to be another .500 kind of season last like year but with a lot of young guys getting experience.

Nobody can spend with the Yanks, but if that was the end-all they'd win every year they didn't have corpses taking up a lot of payroll. Houston will have enough talent to be close, & the stat geeks have shown that 4 runs a game are essentially luck, with the variance of baseball they'll always be within striking distance.

Are the Yanks still in the discussions for Cueto?

The Yankees are down in the 5th inning because Tanaka is terrible in day games for some reason

but

Frazier has hit another homerun.
