not too much looting going on yet so thats good so far, i suppose tonight will be a big test regarding that.
so many sad stories tho - CNN was just there for a rescue of a frail elderly couple who were chest deep in water in their house, a guy on reddit asking for someone to rescue his wife and 4 month old...
it seems like they could have advised people to leave if possible, i do understand why they didnt order an evacuation tho

Well, so far Harvey hasn't been too bad here in Austin. The rain has been steady and constant for about 48 hours now, and there's been some wind. Had around 12-14 inches (giggity) at my house, and I lost a few shingles. But nothing more exciting than that.
I got really baked and ambitious this afternoon, and I got my rain gear on and then did some soil work and contouring in my yard to help a couple spots drain better. Mission accomplished! The soil here is really hard when dry, so I took advantage of the soft ground.
Hope everyone else in Harvey is doing well.
Since we've been cooped up all weekend, we've been cooking a ton of food and just hanging out with our toddler, eating, and listing to records. No complaints here

I think I'm about to hook up and head that way. My friend is trapped on a 4th story floor somewhere with her kid. She stopped posting when the power went out to conserve battery. She had food and water stored though, so waiting on word from her mom if we should go or not.
Poisonous snakes and gators in that water I'll bet.

Just remembered my aunt uncles & cousins live in Houston. Lol. I'm a bad family member, only just now checked on them, they're safe, but stuck inside in a high rise.

It's hot and humid in southeastern Texas but it's not Louisiana, it's not Missisippi, it's not Georgia or Alabama, and it's certainly not Florida.
The real South includes the 5 states I mentioned. In Florida we have more alligators and cottonmouth snakes than anywhere else in the country. You literally have to check your swimming pool before jumping in.
There are a few alligators in Texas but there aren't that many.
