Speaking of home runs... The Yankees just hit 4 of them in the 8th against the Blue Jays.
They have some serious talent on that team. I won't bore people with another spreadsheet, but statistically speaking, they are hitting more HR's than anyone in MLB so far this season.

Most HRs per game (1.58)
Most HRs per AB (.045)

Edinson Volquez tossed a no-hitter for the Marlins against the Diamondbacks last night. 10 Ks to only 2 BBs. 98 pitches.

A bit of an aberration - this win improved his record to 2-7 on the year. Going into the game, his ERA was 4.44

Astros have the best record in MLB at 41-16
Currently on a 10 game win streak.

Their payroll is 18th in the league at $124,343,900

I think the fact its happened so much the last decade coupled with the steroid era has made it just another HR.
I agree with this. But more people have walked on the moon (12) than have hit 600 HRs (9). It's still a big deal.

Impressive spray chart on Aaron Judge batted balls. Especially his HRs. Going with the pitch.
That probably explains why he's batting .324

Wasn't A-Rod on course to break even Bonds' HR record?

Then he got popped for steroids, suspended for a year, and looked like the Vitor Belfort of baseball when he came back.

Yeah, he was tearing it up between 1998 and 2007. (42, 42, 41, 52, 57, 47, 36, 48, 35, 54)

Started to tail off a bit in 2008, then fell off the map in 2011. He had 3 lost seasons with totals of 16, 18 and 7. Didnt play at all in 2014. Decent return in 2015 with 33, followed up by 9 in 65 games in 2016.

He finished at 696 which is only 66 behind Bonds, so if he didn't hit that wall in 2011 (When he was 36) he would have almost certainly finished with the most.

Was 2011 the year he had to sit out for roids?

Reds utility player Scooter Gennett hit 4 HRs in the absolute 13-1 ass-raping of the Cardinals last night, becoming only the 17th player in MLB history to hit 4 HRs in a single game.

He was in a bit of a slump prior to last night, notching only 1 hit in his last 20 ABs - then he goes 5 for 5 with 4 HR (1 GS) and 10 RBI. The outstanding night pushed his average for the season up to .302

Gennett, a Cincinnati native, was picked up by the Reds right before the season started after the Brewers waived him. Scooter plays 2B, 3B, RF & LF

There have been more perfect games (23) than 4 HR games (17).

5 of those 17 are in the HOF : Ed Delahanty, Lou Gehrig, Chuck Klein, Willie Mays & Mike Schmidt.

The last player to do it was Josh Hamilton in 2012.

On 2 occurrences, the team who had the player hit 4 HRs actually lost the game.

Ed Delahanty's Phillies lost to the Chicago Colts 9-8 on July 13, 1896.

Bob Horner's Braves lost to the Expos 11-8 on July 6, 1986.

Good pitching matchup this afternoon.
WAS (37-20) @ LAD (35-25) 3:10 ET

This is the first time the two have ever matched up head to head.

LOL @ Bryce Harper.

Down 2-1 with 1 out in the 8th and the tying run on 3rd, Harper hit a grounder back to the pitcher. The runner on 3rd - who was running on contact - got stuck in a pickle between 3rd and home. It went back and forth for a bit and when they finally get the guy out at home where do you think Harper is? Standing on 2nd base like any baseball player over the age of 10 would be? Nope. Standing on 1st base like a fucking fool.

Stupid, lazy, selfish baseball.

So instead of being down 1 run with a man on 2nd and Ryan Zimmerman (.362) at the plate needing only a single to tie the game, Harper is standing on 1st where a single likely only gets him to 3rd where they would need another 2 out hit to tie the game.

Shit like that would get you a decent amount of ribbing in a beer league softball game, and this dude is pulling that shit in the majors. Pathetic.

I had him in DFS, he set a record for points, but I didn't haven't any results to write home about. Reds hit sliders well & Wainwright throws a lot of them

Cozart took over the lead in WAR from Trout yesterday, Trout's been out 2 weeks but that still impressive

I'm waiting for the Reds to move Cozart. This is the last year they control him anyway. If he keeps up this production he'll demand some serious money on the free agent market.

The guy has a great glove - and now he's crushing the ball.

He's a perennial .250 hitter. I don't know if this is the new "Cozart" or what, but he's been fun to watch this season. He is definitely dialed in.

he's steadily improved the last few years, guy should be a golden glover now he's the MVP so far. If they had any starting pitching they'd be running away with the division, it's amazing. If 2 of Bailey/Finnegan/Disco come back & look competent they might be buyers at the deadline. Never would've thought that before this season, their offense is doing something special

I agree. Starting pitching is all they are lacking. Cingrani pitched last night. I wonder if they'll consider trying him out as a starter again?

Arroyo on the bump tonight. I'm just crossing my fingers he can make it through the order the 2nd time around without getting lit up.

His ability to stay through the ball in the middle or outside part of the plate is really impressive. He does what Stanton seems to struggle at. His pitch selection has been good as well, but teams are starting to try to get him out with fastballs at the chest. He'll have to recognize that and adjust. It happens a lot where hitters kill it in their first year but the league figures them out. I hope it doesn't happen with Judge.

I'm guessing the rundown lasted enough time for him to easily reach second? That's surprising.

Cards' O isn't too good this year, he could very well be good tonight. Scary thing about Arroyo is that hitters usually feast on him 2nd time through the order. he can go 9 up 9 down first time through & it's a worry. if the bullpen is rested & Arroyo makes it through 5 you're in the clear

edit: by bullpen I mean Raisel & Lorenzen
