Day 2

Still getting them used to the cage, great another kitten showed back up, I need a bigger box

Mom is checking me out, one release of the spring clip and I got them

But the black one isn't in there, I want to capture them all. Plus I noticed the one tabby looks like it has a wound, going to try and snag it this afternoon and check it out. If it is a wound I will run it over to my vet.

Was able to get a better look, must just have been something stuck to their fur and not a wound

Keep the trap there. The black one will likely get caught.

Oh he was there, he was just chilling hanging back. I'm going to give my daughter one more day to figure out if her friends want them otherwise I found a no kill rescue local that I will take them to. Daughter had a list of people who said they wanted them and then as soon as I was able to trap them everyone backed out.

Assholes.

We used to trap and keep, but we're at capacity.

Now I've just got shop cats.

Figure it's a better life than a shelter for em. They get chipmunks and squirrels most days. Mice on others and the occasional bird.

And of course, we feed them too.

Christ, I'm bleeding out around 175/mo on cat food.

Yeah, wife and I have had cats ever since we have been together. After last one passed we were just done with litter pans after 30 years in the house. If I could get them to hang out in the barn and workshop I would say screw it and just keep em.

Wear welders gloves if and when you handle them the first few times. Feral kitten will stick you. Been there done that. :grinning:
Post photos up on facebook, free barn cats!
Lol, I already have them sitting on the trap with blankets, little bastards will be Tasmanian devils

I have a foolproof method to teach them to be outside shitters.
Litter boxes are nasty.

Start box training like normal, but have the box by the door.
After a while stop cleaning it.
Then move it outside that door, still full (so they can smell its out there).
Sliding glass works best cause they can see it.
After a couple days clean it and let them get used to going out to their sandbox.
Then never clean it again. Eventually they will just bypass it altogether.

So it's gross for a couple of months, but this has always worked for me.

Oh god, then my Frenchies and pug have a snack tray right next to the door

Cat box crunchies (tm)
If they made dog treats out of that shit you couldn't keep it on the shelf.
My dog pretty much exists on a 50% shit diet.

Hey pal, YOU asked!

The other sure proof way is to build a fire ring and make a 3' perimeter with sand.
It's my cats favorite place to shit :)
Reminds me of when we had our indoor/outdoor cat (RIP Milo).

Stepkids grandfather bought the house next door when it went into foreclosure and decided to fix it up and live in it. Previous owners had an above ground pool.

One of the first things he did was tear out the pool, leaving the big sand base that was beneath it still there.

It became a 12 foot circular letterbox for our cat before he hauled the sand out and filled it in with grass

Fuck me.

So I trapped all 5 and they started flipping out. Mom was outside the cage and was freaking out. I was concerned that they were going to hurt themselves, figured I would try it another day so I released them.

My daughter had made a post on facebook asking if anyone wanted kittens. I just had a little old lady show up and ask for a kitten. Said she just lost her cat of 16 years and saw my daughters post.

I took her name and number and told her I would call her. I broker her little old heart and feel like an asshole right now.
