Ben was on his way to a loss there.
To be seen. He looked out sized and out classed in most areas.
But I'd never call a fight until its done (see my disappointment in silva/sonnen I)

C'mon man! We saw 2 minutes of a 25 minute fight. He took no damage. Ben is relentless with coming forward and trying to take you down. He doesn't slow down. He will keep coming and coming until you break physically and mentally.

He looked terrible overmatched imo, that fight was only going one way until the poke.

I think Ben underestimated him tbh, but don't believe he would in a rematch which I'd favour Ben.

I think it was way too early to say Ben was on his way to a loss. I do have to admit that it was rather concerning to see him shoot in and get nothing but an ankle that Sapo easily avoided though. Those looked like desperation takedowns.

However. Fight was wayyyyy too early to determine what would've happened. Ben easily could've turned the tide.

Not every fighter starts out every single fight beating ass. Some guys have to overcome adversity. Unfortunately we'll never know what would've happened on this night. Now we better get a rematch! I am more interested in this rematch than any One FC fight they could possibly make.

I'm a fan of competitive fights. Clearly Sapo can compete with Ben. I just wish that didn't go the way it did.. and honestly, I blame the ref. If he did the right thing in that situation and gave sapo time to recover without causing mass confusion, maybe the fight would've went on.

IMO, there needs to be a rule SOMEHOW in MMA about holding your hands open with your fingers like that. That's how ALL eye pokes happen. Obviously grapplers need to use their hands to grab, but seriously, it's ridiculous to see guys extending their fingers to parry/grab someone at head level like that. It happens SO MUCH. You know, it's funny. I'm going back and rewatching PRIDE from event #1, I'm at Bushido 1 now so like 30 events in. I can barely recall a single eye poke. The PRIDE gloves need to be universal.

Hanging those fingers out there.

Not on purpose though IMO
As far as I am concerned, Askren continued his streak of finishes here.

After all of these complaints and discussions about the eyepoke problem in MMA, people are trying to pretend that this had to be an intentional eyepoke?

Anyway as you can see in the GIF Askren was coming forward relentlessly and took no damage.

In a rematch I expect Askren to be fearless and formless again.

A guy like Santos is extremely dangerous, he's a what appears to be a crazy mixture of styles and substances.

ONEFC's rules are closer to true fighting. Santos was able to threaten with soccer kicks, which are used regularly in any street fight.

I look forward to a rematch, under the more exotic rules of ONEFC.

Let's hope that Askren works harder on his wrestling and setups, but again I think guys who are more inclined to gas, are also more inclined to win fights early on.

Definitely not Ben's best couple of minutes of fighting, but way too early to predict what would have happened. I think it's very possible that as relentless as Ben is that he lands a take down and does what he wants. The longer the fight goes the more Sapo gasses fighting the TD's and trying to get Ben off him. I also think it's not out of the question to think that Ben could've eaten a big knee on the way in and found himself in trouble. It really sucks balls that the fight ended that way. Maybe the rematch will happen sooner rather than later.

If thec trigger was pulled on that soccer kick it would be career changing for Ben I think. Not like retire or injure but I think if or when Ben gets stuffed and ends up taking a hard kick to the face he'll have a lot more to consider when going for the shoot as his primary offense.

Shitty how it all went down but it almost makes for a better fight in the long run. Today was like a teaser and showed us that Sapo has an answer to the shoot. Now it will be very interesting to see if he can capaitlize on it or will Bens relentlessness be to much?

Santos didn't want to fight. Took the easy way out. And I wouldn't judge Ben on 2 min of the first round. He took no damage. Got some takedowns stuffed but it was just a matter of time before they came, and that dude knew it. Fans got robbed.
that version of askren would have been easily tooled by st. pierre. i hope he was fighting through an injury or something, because i'm sorry to say that he looked awful. santos was winning the round, so i disagree that he didn't want to fight. ben was the one flopping all over the floor.

I LOLd at half the comments an didnt read the other. Ben wasnt losing nor was he hurt. I find it funny that only a few minutes went by and that was enough to judge Ben not on UFC level, thanks guys that made my day, keep up the comedy. Santos was doing a great job, but if you guys had him winning how about betting on a horse race that stops around the first turn and then guessing the winner? just saying

i see it as two people fighting, not who it is.

yes, you can see it was an intentional eyepoke, like jones, because Santos does not move.
when did you see ever an eyepoke in a womens fight?

C'mon Song, he took literally no damage. He got some TD's stuffed, tripped, and his legs kicked out from under him. I love ya bro, but he was far from being beat up.

I'm truly confused how people can make such broad statements by watching 2 minutes of a 25 minute fight.

No visible damage. He ate kicks and got tossed around. I firmly believe he would of weathered the storm but up until then luis was controlling it

Controlling agree, but outside of one leg kick and being tossed twice, Ben wasn't touched. I hope they fight again soon.
