That was “The Next Karate Kid” and I believe Hillary Swank was the girl version of Daniel.
I believe you're correct. When I was a youngster my old man kind of fast forwarded past Karate Kid and we went right to Bloodsport, lol.

The Kreese in the Military sub-story will grow in Season 4.
The 'nam scences were set in 1965, but in the Karate Kid movies, Kreese is noted as the US Army Karate Champion 1971-72. This means that there's still 7 years of story to be told about him. I imagine that he replaces the guy that he killed as the new leader of the squadron (?) or whatever they are, and he hones his skills as he progresses.
The show has so many different storylines going on, that they could now make spin-off series that would be successful. One about Hawk, a period one about Kreese and Miyagi in the 40s, 60s, and 70s, a lesbian porn featuring Sam & Tori, the scope is endless.
