So the official statistics today say we are 1k of deaths above the 5 year average.....

1 thousand.

one thousand.

tens of millions of people have lost a year of their lives, their jobs, their education. Because of an extra 1k of deaths.

just bizarre.

So...

Were all those people gonna die anyway and they just got labeled as Covid deaths, or were we gonna have a really great year for people not croaking out on us.

The latest wheeze over here is the stat of the hospitals. We are being told that we have enough covid cases that require hospitalisation to fill 22 hospitals.

its meaningless unless you know how many hospItals we have in this country. If it’s 30 then it’s an issue.

A quick check tells me as of September 2019 we have 1,257....

That is also meaningless to tell unless all 1257 hospitals are empty.

The big issues in the UK is your lack of ICU beds.
Like everything in the NHS, the bottom of the pyramid is strong (GP support, preventative care, etc) and the top is weak (cancer treatment, ICU beds, subspecialty numbers).
This is okay from a general public health planning but doesn't leave you reserve for this kind of insult.

I'm obviously not in the UK, but in Canada we knew this would be an issue after swine and sars. So what did we do to remedy it? Nothing that's what.

Of course we do the same thing with national security so I guess we shouldn't be surprised.
