It's not an appeal to authority, his qualifications were demanded.
An appeal to authority is when the foundation of an argument is based on an authority whose expertise is beyond question and therefore the argument is correct.
I think dumbing it down to "I took an exam" is thinning that a bit too much.
I just noticed that wording to be funny. It wasn't "I had to pass a class." It was "I took an exam." There's also that taking a course as part of a program doesn't necessarily make you an expert on all matters under that subject. Ie, I can guarantee you that he did not study the effects of people wearing cloth masks they never change and don't wash. Of course that's without unpacking the value of his credentials as it relates to virology.

And his credentials, to me, are worthless because metric system.

That's true.
This is a good and moral stance under most circumstances, but there are also hundreds of thousands if not millions of people taking pride in obstinately refusing to engage in even basic prevention tactics like wearing masks, not having massive gatherings and refusing vaccination. These things increase the likelihood that others will die. It's not much different from someone carelessly flicking a lit cigarette into a dry forest or driving drunk routinely. You're right to say celebrating death is cruel, but the wanton carelessness and diaregard of many of the people being lampooned in this thread who say it's just not their problem or altogether imaginary in the face of other grieving families is arguably much more cruel.
It's always funny when the faux compassionate crowd outs themselves.

The unvaccinated are guilty of nothing, you are assuming a healthy person is sick...you are assuming they are harming people.

There's not a single coronavirus patient that's been admitted to my hospital that didn't require oxygen in the last year. We stopped putting anyone in for observation (a defined 24-hour. Which is classified as such and easily data mined because it does not inpatient) for simply having coronavirus over a year ago.
Positive? Sats are good? Dyspnea precautions and go home.
Likewise testing is not universal and it's not universal in most hospitals here. I do see that happening in academic centers though and I'm not sure what proportion of patients are being treated there.

I do not view people not getting vaccinated as carelessness, I view it as freedom of choice.

Yes that's what I was referencing. The article says they are universal and I'm saying that I don't think that's true in most places otherwise... outside of academic centers
gotcha. i assume that's the case, but they do mention that they have trend correlation in places that don't have universal testing.
