It's a purely American perspective, being endlessly criticized by Europeans and the English in particular for not adhering to the metric system, abolishing guns, and blood for oil.
It's a weird choice to point fingers given history. We get hammered with the blood for oil thing, but we're not expanding our borders. We don't go to other countries and cultures, snatch shit up, and say "Fuck you, this is ours now".
