To an observer following those proceedings, it looked like Trump's people were ass deep in shady business dealings and lied a lot about it, making it look like they had something to hide. Maybe they didn't. But they sure made themselves look guilty as hell.
Trump suckling Putin's balls ever so gently didn't help. Neither did insisting he had no business dealings in Russia. But then, that dirty enemy of the people, the media, found out about Trump Tower Moscow.
We would never known a thing about his administration without journalists. He wouldn't have told us a fucking thing and a lot more people would still be uninformed enough to think he was an honest, upstanding guy.

I felt like after a few of Trump's candidate/presidential assertions turned out to be lies, it seemed probable that he'd bullshited before and would again.
But I'd known he was a habitual liar since the John Miller days. Growing up in Sunnyside in 1980, his reputation in the City was bad enough that you'd lose your money investing with him, and I was ten, too young to understand finance.
I just knew he was a rich guy who was either bad at the game or straight ripped off investors, and returns would be pennies on the dollar when you inevitably went to court.
Oh, yeah. He's a straight up charlatan. It's been weird to see the media turn him into some sort of dictatorial mastermind.
