Cinema Ongoing Horror Thread

Ok I watched a couple of movies.
The Crow- it's not horror so I don't know if it belongs here. Total miss it really did not come even close to what the original captured. I think it starts with Eric and Shelley being absolutely unlikable cunts. I wanted Eric to die. Instead of being killed by the junkies working for evil forces, they are the junkies. The last scene, or final battle, was actually good. That part is entertaining. But everything else was awful. 4/10 and it's only that high for the last battle.
The Substance- heard good things about this somewhere. They were wrong. It's not awful. It held my interest pretty well for awhile. Well, it's got tons of T and A and that will do it. If you're wondering what 61 year old Demi Moore looks like naked, this is your movie. Spoiler: she looks surprisingly good still. There are issues but for 61, very nice. There is tons of other nudity with a super hot young girl, too. I really liked the concept, it had tons of potential. I had guesses of where the story was going, and none of them happened. I fell asleep watching it right at the end, at least it was what I thought was the end. Watched the rest the next night and it turns out there was like another half hour or so left. It totally fell apart in this last act. The great foundation just became stupid and felt more like a Troma movie. Some people may like this one, I feel it could have been so much better. Still lots of boobs gets a 6/10 from me no matter what.
Strange Darling- just got done watching this tonight. Go in blind like I did. If you need some description, my TV service described it as a one night stand spirals out of control. That's all you need to know. It's told in chapters and not in order. Has almost a Tarantino feel because of this. 8/10 maybe 8.5. It was great. Well made film that really kept my attention.
Speak No Evil just popped up on my service too. Not sure if I should watch this James McAvoy version or the original foreign film first. Thoughts?

The ufo interludes end flat.
Overall, this was not great, likely the worst in the franchise, but if you like gore, there’s some in the first four segments.
- FPS like House of the Dead or Resident Evil. Pretty cool, think this might tie into a later segment.
- Paparazzi in (India or Indonesia) try to get candid pics of a pop superstar, but suspect she’s into witchcraft. This was filler, nothing new here.
- A birthday skydiving trip goes off the rails. Better than 2, but not 1.
- PETA goes undercover to a doggy day care. It does not go well. So far 1, 4, 3, 2.

Beezel- 4.5/10. It wasn't awful. Actually had some potential but didn't really deliver. I think I'm giving it more credit than it deserves because it was super low budget and they did what they could. The one guy was over the top weird but that was ok with his character. The final two characters were annoying. Guy was a douche and his homely wife that kept trying to be sultry was annoying. Still I've seen worse.
Azrael- 5/10. Didn't really like this one. I think its because I had different expectations. I didn't watch the trailer but the still shot of it had a huge winged demon. That's not in the movie. Nor is anything near as cool. Basically some lady with nothing to say runs across a homeless encampment outside of Portland. That's not really what is happening but it may as well have been. This movie does the no dialogue thing that was done in No One Will Save You. I hated it in both movies. This one doesn't really explain much why no one is speaking except to say it's sinful. In fact this movie doesn't really explain anything because no one talks. That could be cool if done well, but it doesn't happen here. I liked the cinematography and sets. The movie looked good and I love horrors in the woods and post apocalyptic movies, but this one didn't work for me. I hope you like strong female leaders and fighters, because that's what you're getting. Lots of potential, but it sucked.

I'm reserving my tickets for terrifier 3. I will see it twice as an F U to the joker 2 movie.
Did you watch the 3 new ones released over the last few years? Loved the 1st, 2nd was meh, 3rd was terrible...

3 was WTF but actually pretty good.

It's a bottle story, mostly contained in the basement of a funeral home that doubles as the county coroner's lab. What they think is a recent corpse of a young woman ends up being something much older and dangerous.
Just a really well done indie horror film.
