They need to just surrender Mariupol. Or at least the regular Ukrainian army needs to give up, Azov may as well keep fighting because the DPR will kill them anyway.
It's not like the other surrounded cities where they can hold up regular Russian advances and slow them down. This is almost entirely DPR militia that is not going to be used in offensive spearheads outside Donbass anyway. They've got all the time in the world and can starve the city out.
A lot of extra human suffering for very minimal strategic benefit.

If you watch the talking heads on TV and YouTube, they push the idea that the United States is bullying Europe into turning down Russian oil. Some of that might be true, but I also think that nobody in Europe loved buying Russian oil will also being threatened all the time by Putin. I also think that there's probably a large contingent of people waiting for a reason to make oil and its products much more expensive and unaffordable to drive usage of other technologies. With many countries in Europe having green initiatives to move away from oil anyway, perhaps Russia just finally pushed too hard with a technology they are trying to get rid of.
Regardless, the Middle East oil producers seem to recognize this dynamic. If they up there output to bring down prices to keep everybody hooked on oil As long as possible that will doubly screw Russia who will lose their leverage.
I know this story is too good to be true, but I want to believe!

How an Ukrainian village armed with two flags defeated two Russian tanks:
1. 4 Russian tanks enter village. Villagers watch carefully from distance. Russians transfer fuel from two of them to other two, get onto those two and leave the two dry tanks in the village.
2. Villagers plant Ukrainian flags on those tanks.
3. The other two tanks return, see tanks with Ukrainian flags and open fire, destroying them completely. Keep driving around looking for their other two tanks.
4. One of the yanks drives onto a bridge with 5 tonnes weight limit. the bridge collapses, tanks falls into the river, everyone inside dies.
5. The other tank keeps driving around, get lost and finally gets stuck in the ditch. Russians get out of it and walk away.
