Canada certainly has its problems, but I'd argue the US is far closer to collapse than Canada. And our main problem won't be returning next election.

OK firstly, that article is all theoretical stuff about what might happen in the future. As of right now, Britain has absolute sovereignty over it's nuclear arsenal. The article is also from The Guardian, which is a left wing rag, and is from their "Letters" section, meaning some random person wrote that to them. The second thing you posted is an excerpt from a Select Committee report, and acknowledges the fact that the Trident system was purchased from the USA, and so requires US help to maintain. This is similar to how the UK has purchased the F-35 from the USA, we don't need "permission" to fly those either.
