The medical/health care system in the United States is a weird ineffective frankenmonster of failed capitalism. Worse than many third world countries.Yeah, I know. I enjoy how you're so dumb that you thought this was a 'gotcha'. The hilarious part is that the US pays double per capita of any other advanced nation for healthcare because of gouging like this.
But if you don't think ridiculous bills like these don't impact people when the government doesn't pick up the tab too, then you must not read. Medical bankruptcies are not really a thing in the rest of the world.

In healthcare, I've now see contract work that has a "covid disclaimer" where it basically says if you get sick you caused it. That is, hey we told you how to not catch so if it happens, you must have not followed the rules.
