Is it wrong that I lmao watching that?
No man, 3 1/2 is too young for that. He will be fine, they will work on pronunciations in school. He'll be just fine.So I'm at odds with my wife over getting speech therapy for our 3 1/2 year old. For the most part he speaks excellent has a large vocabulary and can string sentences together.
He struggles to pronounciate certain blends of letters like the 'sp' in spiderman for example. Comes out as phiderman. There's a couple other ones like 'bl' and 'fl' etc.
She wants to spend $135 per hour on a speech therapist on something I believe will develop naturally. Her biggest concern is that she thinks he will be behind the other children, when he goes to school, and they'll tease him
We read to him every day and night, and I've recently been working with him on phonics.
Am I crazy to think she's jumping the gun?
She is definitely jumping the gun.So I'm at odds with my wife over getting speech therapy for our 3 1/2 year old. For the most part he speaks excellent has a large vocabulary and can string sentences together.

He goes to Montessori 3 days a weekShe is definitely jumping the gun.
Do you take kid to daycare?
Finding a good quality daycare with a good group of kids goes along way with the child's development early on.
You have one on the way? Cograts!!Well boys... I guess it's time I joined this thread.
Thanks, actually she's 16 months now. Pandemic baby, that's where I've been all this time. You have one on the way? Cograts!!
Well said. I'm looking forward to swimming with my daughter- she loves baths, and I was a lifeguard and swimmer when I was younger. Sucks there's no pools open now. Hopefully we can travel this summer.for me, same principle as firearms. I can't "gun proof" the world, so I have to "gun-proof" my kids. Teach them about firearms from a "safety first" perspective and get all their curiosity out.
World is 70% water, and you can drown in a couple feet of it...just makes sense to "water proof" kids. Especially since it took me <30m/day for 10 days to get them to where they can fall in fully clothed and get themselves out.
we followed a specific program, but the basic idea is that "swimming" is putting your face in the water and looking down while you kick kick kick and reach with your fingers. Then you teach them that if they fall in the water they turn and swim to the edge.Well said. That sounds good. When the pools reopen here I'm going to see about signing us up.we followed a specific program, but the basic idea is that "swimming" is putting your face in the water and looking down while you kick kick kick and reach with your fingers. getting out is grabbing the edge with your fingers and then "elbow elbow tummy knee" get out. Toss them in once to make sure they can do it fully clothed and ignore dropped shoes or whatever. It's a 2-week program, but on the 8th day is the Toss-In Party.
My only real advice is this...Thanks, actually she's 16 months now. Pandemic baby, that's where I've been all this time.
I asked my wife (who works in the field of early child development). The following was given with the qualifier that "I don't work in speech therapy, and I don't know how things work in Alberta"So I'm at odds with my wife over getting speech therapy for our 3 1/2 year old. Google suggested by age 6, children shouldn't struggle with blend letter pronunciations.I asked my wife (who works in the field of early child development). The following was given with the qualifier that "I don't work in speech therapy, and I don't know how things work in Alberta"
She said that 3.5 is a little on the older side to still be having those types of pronunciation issues. She suggested that a consultation with a speech therapist before committing might be a good idea. She also mentioned that Google should be able to provide baseline information to tell you by age where speech development should be. Then she told me she'd do some research and see if she could find anything more helpful for you.
No worries. It's not like she's busy taking care of a 3.5 month old or anything.Google suggested by age 6, children shouldn't struggle with blend letter pronunciations.
Since it's become a concern we've been working with him on some words, he's really sharp and picks up quick.
I told the wife that we have enough to deal with right now, if it's still an issue overseas we will cross that bridge when we get there.
I appreciate you taking the time to consult your wife. Thank you!
Are there not services available for free? My son had speech therapy through the school district from three years old until last year (eight years), and it was all free for me. It helped tremendously.I asked my wife (who works in the field of early child development). Wish both my kids were that age. Take sleepless nights over daily chaos anyday! No worries. It's not like she's busy taking care of a 3.5 month old or anything.
Lol! That's great, if anything he's advanced for his age.
So much damn chaos and I only have one !Wish both my kids were that age. Take sleepless nights over daily chaos anyday!
