That's assuming it never gets activated. I'm sure it eventually will, possibly on schedule.It doesn't, I don't think. You're right. But they aren't going to recoup their investment on the pipeline any time soon. It's owned by Russia, not a private company. Probably a drop in the bucket, but if they were banking on the pipeline, which I'm sure they were or it wouldn't have been built, then not only is the pipeline a waste of money, but they are also being screwed out of future tax and logistics savings. Also, it's the first of many sanctions to come.
On a side note, look for the rest of the world to cozy up to the middle east. Russia is smart (obviously) to cement relations with china, because without them, they're screwed. They offer the world nothing that the world can't get somewhere else.
I'm not saying that Germany doing this is pointless, but it's largely symbollic. Some solidarity is always nice. But I doubt Putin cares. Even though this move has zero impact on current supply, we will likely see an immediate increase in the barrell price of oil - which, ironically, is a gain for Russia if people continue to buy from them.
