That's assuming it never gets activated. I'm sure it eventually will, possibly on schedule.

I'm not saying that Germany doing this is pointless, but it's largely symbollic. Some solidarity is always nice. But I doubt Putin cares. Even though this move has zero impact on current supply, we will likely see an immediate increase in the barrell price of oil - which, ironically, is a gain for Russia if people continue to buy from them.

Don't forget that Russia has a GDP similar to Italy. Around 1.7 trillion so they NEEDED NS2 quite a lot.

Agreed.
But again - it wasn't even supposed to be active until June or July. Construction is complete. The only thing that was still to be done was both sides signing a dotted line.

As I posted a few times it had been put back 18 months a while ago.

Putin wanted a reduction in NATO and NS2 green lit earlier.

He got Nato expansion and the loss of his pipe.

As I say though it's very odd how he's played this, I genuinely think he is unwell.

Covid broke a lot of people.

Hopefully personal sanctions against Putin cronies will hurt more, they can't hide their stolen money in the west and buy property in London again.

I didn't realize it until you mentioned it, (yes they did annex Crimea to get Sevastopol, which was the most important part, however a federal city inside an antagonistic neighboring country isn't secure) However, Russian forces have Ukraine surrounded on 3 sides- Crimea, Russia and Belarus. I bet they move in in a pincer movement. Sure enough, that's what the intel showed from a few weeks ago.

The weird thing is they're going to the trouble to manufacture a pretext for war. They go to great lengths to make sure the west knows they don't care what they think. I wonder if it's Chinese influence? They're 180˚ the other direction. It's ALL appearances and pretext. The whole "peace-keeping force" charade is so weird.

It's such a charade dude, peace keeping force? Lol they are the ones disturbing the peace in the first place.

Their KGB leader made sure that only anti western sentiment is viewed as normal in Russia. Anything else is "foreign agent" influence. Like it's something straight out of Stalin's playbook. Everywhere there is an enemy. So they see Ukrainian democratic government as enemy. Any democratic country is an enemy.

I just hope to God it's not what you suggested with China and Russia running amok at the same time and taking military actions on two fronts to test the West. That would be a disaster for everyone involved.
