Sydney FC 2: Dugan vs. Lard Recap (1st part)
265 lbs - David Campbell vs. Tim Arlovski
A useless stand up fighter, Campbell took some punishment in the first moments of the fight, but he didn't take long to land a takedown, which spelled the end for Arlovski. Campbell quickly slipped to full mount and was perfect with his ground and pound, scoring a TKO with 3:55 minutes in the first round. If only "The Magician" works on his striking, he will be a force in SFC's HW division.
135 lbs - Palaktingpuet Payakarakatong vs. Shair Khan
Two blue chip striking prospects facing off in a compelling matchup. Each man tried to get every advantage they could, exchanging clinch entries and exits, landing careful, non commital strikes and even attempting the odd surprise takedown attempt. Palaktingpuet came out on top with a nice display of well rounded skills, landing a takedown and working on subs after a scramble. With only 2:32 minutes, Khan was forced to tap out to a tight armbar, the Submission of the Night. Rumors are running that Palaktingpuet, at 3-0 to start his career, will get the shot for the first ever SFC BW title.
135 lbs - Kim Posible vs. Quincy Hanley
In a battle of two high level wrestlers, neither one was able to show their grappling skills, as Hanley wobbled Posible with a wild attack of punches right away, hitting body and head and finishing with a straight punch to the jaw with 42 seconds of fighting. It was Hanley's first career win after starting 0-2, and not surprisingly, Knockout of the Night. He was quick to call out the much heavier Tyler Bate in the aftermath of the fight.
155 lbs - Tyler Bate vs. Young Buck
Adding some distinct flavor to the night, after what turned out to be a TWGC match, SFC brought us an unofficial kickboxing bout, with both young men agreeing to keep it on the feet. Only 16 years old, Young Buck showed a solid chin and great warrior spirit, but the older, more experienced Tyler Bate - only 18 years old himself - was too much to handle, landing combos and soundly outstriking his underage opponent en route to an unanimous 30-27 scorecard. The teenagers won a well deserved Fight of the Night award for their efforts.
170 lbs - Dmitri Dravinski vs. Jack Rustern
In the first fight of the night, the wonderful boxer Rustern made a puzzling decision and took it to the ground within the first seconds of action, which would prove to be his undoing. Dravinski quickly reversed position and started working on submission attempts. He ended up on the bottom again after trying an ankle lock, but his active guard kept Rustern in trouble. Dravinski tried a triangle and finally an armbar, forcing a tap out with four seconds to go in the first round. No strikes were attempted in this contest from neither side.
