Billy Hamilton is so fun to watch. Dude plays a hell of a CF and he is an absolute beast on the base paths.

He isn't really known for his bat, but he's on fire lately. In the 3 game sweep of the Giants, Billy went 7 for 13 with a double, 3 triples and 3 stolen bases. Raised his average from .214 to .248 - He's hitting .357 for the month of May. With his defensive dominance and threat on the bases, I think the mark he needs to hit is .260

He did get picked off today, but that was when he tried to take 3rd on Cueto / Posey - arguably the hardest battery to run against.

He a terror when on base. Pitchers must hate it.

If there was a play on broadway called "Hamilton" based on Billy, it would hardly ever hit the stage but it would be amazing must-see stuff when it did

Reds are back in 1st place and have won 5 in a row.

Unfortunately the Yankees are coming to town.

thanks for the tip. just picked him up and dropped Andrew Triggs. 0.00 ERA with a 1 KO/BB ratio means he's bound to get roughed up.

btw I have Springer on my team. I didn't even know the Astros had such a good offense, just realized it after seeing his numbers on top of Altruve and Correa.
FYI. The Reds just sent Amir Garrett down to the minors. They are claiming it's about controlling his innings - the Reds have 2 days off over the next 8 games so they are going to go with a 4 man rotation and give Garrett a bit of a rest. He'll be called up again shortly.

I think it's really about contract control. Garrett looks very promising as a starter, and if he spends 21 days in the minors during the 2017 season the Reds will control him for another year before he would be eligible for free agency. Tricky, tricky.

thanks. that's so much more insightful info than what yahoo sports provided. I benched him his last start but he didn't do too bad in the end. is he a top prospect?

I believe he's been their #3 prospect for a couple years now.

I've either watched or listened to every game he's pitched this year. He looks really good. He had a terrible outing against Milwaukee, but other than that he's been solid every start. He doesn't get rattled either. Very calm, and didn't lose his shit even during the MIL game when he got rocked. That's important for a young pitcher.

He is sitting at 3-2 with an ERA of 4.25, but if you take out the MIL game he'd be at 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA for his other 5 starts.

Not sure he's worthy of a fantasy roster spot since it's obvious the Reds intend to play the eligibility game with him (Assuming he stays healthy, I'm sure he'll have another short stint in the minors to get that 21 games), but he's definitely a young starter to keep your eye on.

that's the only reason they sent him down. look at guy's like Rookie Davis, he's got a high pop fly rate & a high hard contact rate & he's playing in one of the smallest ballparks in baseball. He's still in the big leagues unless things changed since my last refreshing of the roster page

He's still in the rotation. And my guess is the Reds will do the same thing to him - make sure he spends 21 days in the minors to control his contract for 1 more year. Although if he keeps pitching the way he has, he might spend more than 21 days down there. LOL.

Davis pitches tomorrow against the Yankees. I don't anticipate that going well for him.

I probably didn't get my point across well at all, Garrett will now be under control an extra year which is good*. Davis will never be a mlb pitcher that's successful, so feed him to the lions

*I guess, it's good for the Reds anyway, hope he withstands the crapshoot of pitcher's arms so he can earn a real payday. the more I get into advanced baseball stats the more I realize it's an evaluation system designed to pay players less. not a great feeling when that's what I'm putting several hours a day into

He sounds good. What kind of stuff does he got? Can he blow you away, or does he rely more on hitting locations?

Same reason the Cubs kept Bryant in the minors to start his rookie season. Why the Yankees weren't in a rush to bring up Sanchez (aside from still having McCann) or Severino. They all just play the game to keep players under control as long as they can.

He doesn't throw super hard. Low to mid 90s. He'll hit 94 every now and then, but he's usually in the 91 or 92 range. 4 seamer. He throws a slider around 80 to 85. He has a change as well. Hitters appear to have trouble picking the ball up, but that could change the more people see of him (He's only had 5 starts)

He's big. 6'6, 230. Former basketball player at St John's - so he's sort of still learning to pitch. I dont know, i get excited for new pitching prospects but they very often end up letting you down. We'll see. I like what i see so far.

The biggest thing I like about him is his attitude. He doesn't get rattled. Calm and cool.

And holy shit at that Yanks/Cubs game last night. 18 innings. Something like 48 combined Ks. Crazy.

Yankees took it 5-4. They had it won early but Chapman blew a save opportunity in the 9th.

That's good news for your Reds. Getting the Yankees after a double header and lots of innings by the relief pitchers.

I've made it 13 innings before for a regular season game, my personal best, sitting thru 18 innings sounds ridiculous
