It seems like a weird situation to knowingly get yourself into.if there is 1000 assholes with torches seig heiling at some commies in ski masks then innocent people should probably get the fuck out of there.if they dont then they risk getting caught in the mele.
Yes we should always kowtow to those with different political or social ideas than us when they have the greater numbers.

Blame the police or the local governments for not having a large enough police presence to prevent this tragedy, but the right to peaceful protest of ideas is fundamental to every democracy.

Don't blame the victims who, as far as I can tell from the videos, were not the ones who initiated the violence.

Blame the victim.
I mean things got overheated and someone ran some folks over with a car. Ugliness to be sure but they were throwing bags of piss at each other. Things have already sunk to a pretty abysmal state even without that.

Was that happening at the scene of the 'attack'?

Was the lady who was killed involved in throwing bags off piss?

George Soros doesnt pay them to make peace
This is the purple revolution, different color, different regime but oh so many similarities.

The bags of piss are a pretty weird wrinkle though, not very classy. A little bit of local flavor I suppose.

There was piss flying everywhere I guess. I'm not sure about whether the lady was packing or not.

Might have been packing piss, might not have been I guess.

Kind of like two gangs rumbling. But with, you know, bags of piss instead of switchblades.

If you are stupid enough to get hit by a brick when people are throwing brick while you had an option to not be there then it is your own fault.your own safety is your own responsiblity.if you are not looking for violence you do not go where you know there is going to be violence.if you go there knowing there is going ro be violence and you end up getting hurt by either side or even by accident it is your own fault.no one forced anyone else to be there today

same arguement could be used against those who show up to clash with ANTIFA.

They sell a suppression of fascism, the FA stands for fascism

As I said, the name is bullshit because there is not a cohesive end at that.

Richard Spencer is anti-black. He sells separate but equal. He sells "culture" and "equality". It's bullshit too.

Read the antifa Facebook's, their chapter pages, it's going down, etc. They are collective of new anarchists that use the fascism label as a collective to dehumanize anyone they are against, all the way down the slippery slope that fascism is a natural extension of capitalism and various other causes they are against. Various pro-capitalistic causes are lumped in oddly...just more fascism. It's nothing more than typical radical left with a logo.

There is nothing more 'misguided' about that than those young men I saw believing they are just preserving white heritage under Richard Spencer.

In the end, a flag is used to dehumanize others. Sympathizing that, "Antifa means well by creating a society that looks only the way they believe, and just because that's anti-libertarian, anti-capitalistic, and those that oppose them should be met with violent ends or have their current rights criminalized" is no different to me.

Antifas end goal isn't simply removing fascism, but rather promoting ground level fascist actions to reach their own political and societal ends.

If the right starts hunting down communists and socialists will they just be "misguided?"

Statues have lots of reasons for being up... It's not always so simple.

Before all this shit happened, I read a story yesterday about the planned protest and saw that there were gonna be 1,000 people there. My first thought was "wow, I didn't even know such a group had that many total members."

Tell me more about this white culture?
Not sure if serious?

Spencer and others sell that term to justify their want for a white nation and ideas like anti-miscegenation.

If you really mean, "what is white culture?" I'm sure you can google and find lots of opinions.

I'd be inclined to disagree in the more general sense. Statues go up to remember a great accomplishment. Outside of dictators erecting statues of themselves; statues of people get put up because of one (or more) extremely positive attribute associated with that person. It's extremely short sighted that we're tearing down statues of people because of the ethics of their time. People don't seem to realize that a hundred plus years from now, it'll be us who are looked upon as the unenlightened barbarians.

You make a good argument. Maybe I meant statues have a lot of arguments to stay up or go down, even with controversy...it's not always simple.

KKK was about 1500 last year when I looked up.
Outdated numbers on the largest Nazi Group (2012) gives them about 400.
That's your David Duke and Richard Spencer contigent.

There's probably twice that in 4chan showing up. That varies from shit starters to weird not nazi but kind of nazi fringe to free speech advocates.

Then there's probably a few hundred antifa given the location (versus if it were SoCal)

People traveled a long way to take part in this shit show on both sides.

Also, if you avoid this extra spin on the site, this is a handy map of knowing what kind of known anger is in your neighborhood.

Normally statues are for a celebration of that one persons life, but if something has stood for a long period of time, does it not just become a cultural landmark, something that can inform of a time where good or now bad opinions were once celebrated.

That's one of the arguments for many controversies here, including the civil war era statues and various religious landmarks.

I'm inclined to lean towards preserving statues that have that historic value. But each case probably deserves an individual look.

Throughout the country there is a trend of removing confederate names from schools, parks, statues, etc. Removing hate vs white washing history (no pun meant again) vs reactionary social engineering...and more. The KKK obviously wants it all up to support their brand. And this all gives them a lightning rod to get attention they would never have.

I kind of wonder if we couldn't just move some of the statues, put other various historical statues together, etc. Some sort of tour of reverence of confederate actions and what went wrong, warts and all. Some of these guys were black hating assholes. Others owned slaves but I'm not prepared to say we must remove every slave owner from public display. Rather, I wish we could find a way to pay respect to the history and offer a solemn lesson to it. As BeardOfKnowledge @ConorMcGregorsBeard says, why did that statue go up? Probably not for their black hating ways. And maybe the reason would help show how it all went wrong?

I get why people are angry a park is named an infamous name. And parks and statues don't really matter in the end. But what an opportunity I think there could have without giving a platform for the KKK and others to get a voice.
