Since this graph wants to use accidents, they should include vehicle accident deaths for children as well, so that you can see that it's more deadly to just ride to school. We have less than 1k special forces operators and Army Rangers in active combat. The other roughly 17k troops in a "conflict" are relatively safe. We have over 100k schools and over 50 million school children. It took two events to bump the number up to over 30 deaths. There is still almost a 0% chance a kid will be involved in a mass shooting. They are more likely to die choking on a Big Mac.

The constitution is from 1789.......we’re in 2018
The Bill of Rights is a list of natural human rights which no legitimate government can violate. The 2A enshrined the right to preserve your own life - especially against an illegitimate State.

Has that changed and (if so) when?

So a 14yr old kid shoots himself in a school bathroom and it shouldn't be considered a school shooting?

Like I said nothing will get solved and these murders will be forgotten. We as a country do have a Mental health issue.
100%, this is a mental health issue. And it's a slight variance from hurting others to hurting yourself.

But...No, this shouldn't count as a school shooting. An argument in the parking lot after a football game that escalates to a shooting shouldn't count as a school shooting. A drug deal gone wrong on the sidewalk by a school shouldn't count.

If we want to fix school shootings, i.e. the lonely disaffected youth gunning down a dozen children at school, we need to start by being intellectually honest about the problem we're trying to solve. Throwing extemporaneous data on the pile to make the problem seem worse is a tactic used by people who are trying to form your opinion and drive your action with fear. People do this because they can't drive your action with reason and logic.

I demand polices crafted pragmatically, not emotionally.

Don’t get specific with me, you know I’m not an expert like that.
Point still stands, no civilian needs one of those weapons. Period. It will take a while but there’s no need for anyone to own one. The gun laws here are ridiculous. Seriously crazy people are able to get their hands on one legally so easily. Like I said, we won’t feel the benefit because so many will be available on the black market, but future generations hopefully will.
Why does the second amendment exist?

Key word

Amendment

That shit can be rewritten. It's a rewrite itself
We should probably get rid of free speech too. There's no way the founding fathers though that every asshole would be able to influence the entire world.

So you are saying there is not a gun violence problem in American schools?

Do you think it is ok that over 25 kids have been murdered in a school setting already this year?

People are also more likely to die choking on a Big Mac than they are to be the victim of a violent terrorist act or the victim of violence from someone illegally in the USA. Do you think America is wasting its time fretting about illegals and terrorists?

It’s never ok when a child dies, however, 25 out of 50 million is hardly a crisis.

Pause for a second and think about the parents and families of those kids.... American kids... Not a war torn country, not a third world nation.... But the so called "greatest nation on Earth". These parents/families send their kids to what they consider a "safe space".... And numerous shootings/killings have taken place. How do you think the public will react? How do you think these families feel? Do you think they are thinking "my kid is dead, but I sure hope they don't make it harder for people here to buy their 7th weapon". You defend the idea that it's not a big problem pretty hard in here, and I think that most people here (can't speak for anyone but myself truly) feel that one child shot dead in school is one too many.

This country is prone to extreme reactions on both ends of the spectrum, I try to tune out the overreaction and knee jerk response.... But to sit here and say that another mass school shooting takes place, and there isn't an issue or even a reason to be concerned with a growing trend is shortsighted. I know that you're a a parent, as am I, and personally for me.. 25 kids dead out of 50 million is a huge issue.

We have gun violence in Canada but it is no where on the levels of America or other countries without firearms licensing and restrictions.
I'll ignore for a second that your statement here has nothing to do with the fact that the vast majority of gun murders in Canada are committed with illegally obtained guns and that our laws have done nothing to quell the availability of criminals to obtain guns.

The statement you make here rings incredibly hollow as it was just as accurate prior to Canada's introduction of strict regulations. It also rings hollow that the Canadian murder rate hasn't drastically dipped since the introduction of gun laws, that instruments of murder have merely changed.

I never stated anything about gun murders and illegal firearms. I stated we have less gun violence. Canada has restricted certain firearms much longer than the somewhat recent introduction of more strict regulations.

What is the per capita rate of those who are victims of violent crimes caused by illegal guns?

Guns dont have to be illegally obtained to be counted as gun violence. We require registration, licensing and have restrictions.. Why would I compare illegally obtained guns in countries with restrictions and/or licensing with all gun violence in non restrictive countries?

I stated other countries seem to be successful in restricting certain firearms as the discussion was around if that was even possible. It clearly is as we dont have a proliferation of these restricted firearms. Sure career criminals are able to access illegal guns but that doesnt mean our gun laws dont restrict the availability of specific guns.

You honestly dont think our laws have any impact on preventing criminals from accessing specific banned guns? You think it is as easy for a disgruntled teen in Canada to access a firearm as it is for an American kid?

Technically under the law, a gun becomes "illegal" the second it's pointed at someone, so in Canada all gun murders are committed with illegal guns, but that's semantics. According to Stats Can in 2016, 219 out of the 223 gun murders were committed in gang shootings, or by those without licenses.

Why would I compare illegally obtained guns in countries with restrictions and/or licensing with all gun violence in non restrictive countries?
I can honestly say I don't understand what you're asking here.

You honestly dont think our laws have any impact on preventing criminals from accessing specific banned guns?
Do they have in "impact" in the sense of making it more inconvenient? Sure. "Impact" in the sense that it lowers the violent crime rate? Well, we know that statistically they have no discernible impact.

You think it is as easy for a disgruntled teen in Canada to access a firearm as it is for an American kid?
Substantially lower rate of firearms ownership. So no, it definitely isn't as easy. The more relevant question would be why weren't disgruntled kids shoot up schools when we had no storage laws?
