Not necessarily.
I'm sure a lot of people who make the equivalence are being sincere; they just haven't studied the differing ways in which both weigh evidence to arrive at their respective conclusions.

I think both religion and science are best left to the folks who know it, as they seem unlikely to ever be reconciled.

Though my friend the Lutheran is a science teacher, and is faithful to his religion.
I was taught in a Catholic school and heard both the myth of creation and the Theory of Evolution - and not some watered down version. Looking back, I'm kind of impressed at that

Example, it's correct to refer to the Theory of Gravity. But it's confirmed to such a degree that it effectively is a Law (excepting special situations that don't happen on Earth). No one seriously argues for some other explanation.

But at one time, why birds don't simply fall from the skies was a matter of wild speculation.

Can you show where each side claims to be right and claims any dispute equals science denial? Are the scientists themselves or their employers saying this, or is it being misrepresented in media oversimplification as so often happens?

and then there's the ever fun Astrazeneca vaccine that isn't deemed safe enough for Americans, but in country's that are short on vaccines it's basically all they're offering. In Canada it was safe, then we got MRNA vaccines, and it was then shelved. Oh, when some from our advisory panel said "I understand why if you're younger you might want to wait until you can get an MRNA vaccines rather than AZ I understand." She was publicly pilloried for it:
