Well of course. And the guy replacing him currently is surely in the know on basically everything as the number two in charge.

Hence the unlikeliness that firing one person at the FBI would stop any investigation that has teeth.
That remains to be seen.

Networks Spend 62 Percent of Comey Coverage Pushing Firing Conspiracy

In the immediate aftermath of the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, the Big Three Networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) didn’t quite know how to spin it. But just 24 hours later, the narrative was clear: President Trump fired Comey because the Russia investigation was closing in on him. During their Wednesday evening broadcasts, the networks spent almost two-thirds of their Comey coverage (62 percent) pushing that theory. The networks ran 40 minutes, 25 seconds of Comey coverage, and of that, they spent 25 minutes, five seconds on the conspiracy theory.

Updated FBI Director job application form:

Thank you for your interest in becoming the new director of the F.B.I.! As you know, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is vital to maintaining law and order in the United States. To insure that you’re qualified for the job, please answer the questions below.

1. In times of war, the President’s powers are:

a) Limitless.
b) Very, very big.
c) Unlawful to question.
d) All of the above.

2. In times of peace, the President’s powers are:

a) Identical to his wartime powers.

3. Should a President’s Administration be suspected of having colluded with a foreign government to fraudulently win an election, the proper response by the F.B.I. would be to:

a) Delay any investigation until the President has left office, thereby assuring smooth executive governance.
b) Ask the President if this is true; accept the answer unquestioningly.
c) Watch a little “Fox & Friends” before making any big decisions.
d) Such a scenario would not occur.

4. If the F.B.I.—against all logic—were to begin investigating collusion, and the F.B.I. director were then terminated for totally unrelated reasons, it would be the responsibility of the incoming director to:

a) Bring the investigation to an immediate halt.
b) Apologize to the President on behalf of all law enforcement.
c) Locate the previous F.B.I. director; jail him.
d) Take another look at that Podesta guy. Something’s not right.

5. Circle all that apply. In my opinion, the most pressing law-enforcement issue in the U.S. is:

a) Illegal immigration.
b) Voter fraud.
c) Gangs.
d) Illegal-immigrant voters who’ve organized themselves into gangs.
e) Drugs.
f) Islamic terrorists.
g) White nationalists.

6. Ethnic, racial, and religious profiling by law-enforcement officers is:

a) Necessary to fight crime.
b) Currently not done enough.
c) Proven to get results.
d) A great idea! Did you just think of that?

7. Using the office of the Presidency to enrich oneself personally is:

a) Legal.
b) Not not legal.

8. Being sure to include a thesis statement, supporting evidence, and conclusion, please write seven hundred words in response to the following prompt: The President has done nothing wrong and even the fake-news media knows it.

9. Circle all that apply. If hired as the new director of the F.B.I., grounds for my termination would include:

a) Investigating the President for any wrongdoing.
b) Investigating anyone in the President’s Administration for any wrongdoing.
c) Looking at the President in the eyes without asking permission.
d) Speaking to the President without first being spoken to.
e) Wearing my green tie even after the President has made it clear that my green tie looks dumb and should be thrown away.
f) Mouth-breathing.
g) Speaking to Congress under any circumstances.

10. Use the space below to draw a flattering likeness of the President.

11. Можете ли вы прочитать это предложение?

a) Нет
b) Да; все идет по плану

12. Please indicate your gender:

a) Male

So Trump was never under investigation according to Comey but he fired Comey for investigating him? Liberal logic at its finest.

Did Comey say that or did Trump say Comey said that?

Comey's associates have stated Comey would have never spoken to Trump about a possible investigation into him or his team.

And if Comey did reveal to Trump there was no investigation when asked, shouldnt it be of concern the President is asking the FBI director for information about a possible investigation against him?

I cant believe the President would ask the director of the FBI a question. How dare him.

You dont think there should be a series of checks and balances within the USA govt?
I think its more of a conflict of interest to mishandle classified material but dont let real facts get in the way of your arguement about a question

I agree its wrong to mishandle classified material (and even a justification for termination), not sure if it would be considered a conflict of interest though.

Just because Comey mishandled classified information, that does not justify Trump asking the FBI for information about an investigation on him and his team.
